ECO School
ECO School's Programme
Mullavilly is officially recognised as an ECO School. Our eighth Green Flag was awarded in May 2024 and we will be working towards our ninth Green Flag over the next two years.
We are conscious of our need to preserve water and energy and recycle a lot of our paper, cardboard and plastic. We also recycle all of our food waste from the school kitchen and each classroom. Inside the school grounds we have a clothing bank and regularly collect for Cash For Clobber.
Each class has a vegetable patch to grow and harvest their own vegetables - sometimes we even sell our produce at the school gate.
We also make compost from leaves, fruit and vegetable peelings. We know it is our responsibility to look after our school grounds.
ECO Committee 2024/25
To join our ECO Committee pupils were required to prepare a short presentation to their class outlining why they would be a good ECO Committee member and what they would do in their role. Each class from P4-7 then voted for 2 pupils from each class to join the ECO Committee.
Our first meeting was the appointment of roled within the committee - everyone has a very important role to play! Following an explanation of each role, pupils were then invited to put themselves forward for each role. We took a vote to assign roles when necessary.
Our Roles are: Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, Publicity, ECO Monitors, Garbage Gobblers, Energy Savers, Head Gardener, Recycling team and Active Travel team.

Eco Schools Green Flag
We are very pleased to announce that we have been awarded our 7th Green Flag!
Winter Ecology Trip
Eco club swapped Mullavilly for the Palace Stables to participate in a Winter Ecology workshop. We braved the rain to identify different trees in the grounds and then learnt about the habitats of different woodland animals through an interactive activity. To finish, Eco club took on the roles of trees, birds and woodland animals to learn about the effect of deforestation.
Mini-beast Workshops
Gemma from the council came to visit eco club for two workshops. We learnt a lot about mini-beasts and bugs in our first workshop and added lots of new materials to our mini-beast hotel. On Gemma's second visit, we reviewed our learning about mini-beasts and inspected our mini-beast hotel for bugs!
Eco Club
Term 1a Eco Club have been focusing on our Biodiversity topic for our Green Flag. This week, we constructed a 'mini-beast' hotel using old pallets, leaves, moss, bamboo, sticks and so on. Well done, everyone!
Sixth Green Flag
After a lot of hard work over a 2 year period we were awarded our sixth Green Flag (6/6/16). A massive congratulations to all member sof the ECO Committee for their hard work and to Miss Kelly for all of her outstanding efforts in getting us ready. A brilliant achievement.
