Inspiring Believing Achieving

Football

Mr Ritchie takes football every Monday afternoon from 3.00 - 4.00pm during Term 1 and Term 2. Boys and girls from Primary 5-7 take part in passing, dribbling, shooting and tackling exercises and always finish with some matches.

The team enters the Mid Ulster league for small, medium and large schools every year and also participate in other competitions such as the Jones Shield indoor tournament, Christian Aid five-a-side tournament and many others.

In 2017-2018 we had a truly remarkable year of success becoming the National 7 a side champions alongside winning multiple other trophies and playing an exciting brand of passing football. You can read a detailed report on our success on the Parents Page, Mullavilly Success page of the website.

In June 2021 we were awarded the prestigious IFA schools quality mark at SIlver level. (See report below).

Girls Runners Up in Richmount Tournament (2024)

We have a long tradition of success in the girls Richmount tournament, with three previous victories and two runner up finishes over the last ten years. The girls football team continued our success today (29/5/24) by finishing second and receiving their silver medals. They won three and lost narrowly 1-0 to the eventual winners. They played superbly the whole way through. Sophie played so well in nets making lots of good saves, Sophia-Rose was our rock in defence, Poppy, who is only in P4, ran her socks off and showed lots of skill, Isla was superb scoring all of our goals and being a stand out player in the whole tournament. Emma and Holly did really well in defence and midfield, working so hard for the team. Well done girls!! Well done also to Isla for winning an individual award for most promising player. The team was made up of one P4, one P5 and one P6 girl alongside three P7's so for such a young team they shoul dbe very proud.

Brownlow Integrated Tournament 2024

Our P5 and 6 children took part in a mixed tournament at the annual Brownlow Integrated College tournament for primary schools. A total of 18 schools took part on the day. At least one girl had to be on the pitch at all times. Mullavilly played very well on the day, winning 2 matches, drawing 2 matches and losing 1. They narrowly missed out on a place in the semi finals and just one more goal in either of the drawn matches would have seen them through. There were some players injured or unavailable as well so the future looks bright for the next couple of years.

IFA School Quality Mark SIlver Award

Today (4/6/21) we were awarded the prestigious IFA Schools Quality Mark. We had expected to be awrded the bronze award but our application and achievements in football have been so strong over the last 7 years we were awarded the silver award. Ross Redman from the IFA called out to present us with a special plaque and a selection of new football equipment for the school.
The IFA accredidation was set up to enhance and improve schools football. Amongst other things we had to show a clear capacity to develop football in school for all ages. We implemented amongst other things, school/club links, a head of football, a media plan (website) amongst many others.
We have also of course on the pitch punched well above our size in recent years. We have won countless tournaments over the last 4 years in particular culminating in us winning the 7 a side national title and being runners up in the 5 a side national title. Our girls team have also won numerous trophies including the Richmount Cup 3 times.
The pandemic has held us back somewhat in the last year and a half with after school clubs not being possible and inter school matches ruled out. We look forward to September 2021 and getting our football back up and going to its full capacity.
Thanks to the IFA and Ross Redman in particular for their support in achieving this and well done most especially to our boys and girls who have been the main reason we have achieved such a special award.

Brownlow Cup Runners Up (2019)

Our P5 and 6 boys took part in the prestigious Brownlow Cup, a tournament we won two years ago and then went on to become National champions the following year when the boys were in P7. The tournament gives a good indication into the following year.

On todays showing the future looks bright as the boys played superbly all day, winning their group and semi-final without conceding a goal. They met Tandragee in the final and in a very tight match with chances for both teams Tandragee were the victors with a goal in extra time. Well done boys, we look forward to next year! This is especially impressive as 4 of our team of 7 were only in P5!

NATIONAL CHAMPIONS (2018)

The boys football team today pulled off a remarkable set of results to become the NATIONAL 7 a side football champions having already finished as runners up in the indoor 5 a side tournament as well. They were a class apart all day winning all 7 of their matches and only conceding one goal and even that was an o.g. They played a really high quality brand of passing football throughout and deserved to lift the trophy. Peter was reliable as ever in nets and didn't look like conceding a goal, Adam and James were superb in defence as well as playing a key role in starting many of our attacks with Adam scoring in both the semi final and final as well. Ethan was full of skill, speed and creativity on the right wing, Oliver our captain drove the team forward and linked the whole team together with some lovely passing. Jake played really well in midfield and upfront, working hard for the team and creating opportunities for others. Kobe led the line up front really well and scored a super goal. And special mention to Harry, our youngest player, still only P5 and as good as any player there. Everyone in Mullalvilly is so proud of this fantastic achievement and of all of our success over the last two years. A special team finished off the season with a special win.
