Manchester Day 3

An earlier start on day 3 with an early wake up of 6.00am. It did take a few knocks from Mr Ritchie but eventually everyone was up and ready for breakfast at 7.00am. Well fed and very excited we set of for Alton Towers. It was a wet start but we got quite lucky with the rain as it was mainly very light drizzle and actually stopped for about an hour. However at about 2.00pm while all of the children were on one of the smaller spinning rides it absolutely tipped it down and they got absolutely drenched. But it didn't dampen our spirits. Everyone really did very well and went on lots of the big rides and roller coasters. The Nemesis was one we had to skip out unfortuntely as the queue for it was up to 80 minutes long by the time we got there. But most of the other big rides were tried and everyone really loved the experience. As you can imagine it was very difficult to get photos of the children on the actual rides as they were moving so fast. However if you zoom in on the one of the rollercoaster you will make out three girls and two boys (Upside down and moving backwards!). After getting soaked we made our way back to the bus and stopped at the remaining bigger rides on the way back. We left and had quite a long journey back with the busy rush hour traffic. Everyone had a chance to get changed and we headed out again for our dinner at 7.00pm. It was then back to the hotel to get packed and ready for heading home tomorrow. Mainly a day of travel tomorrow, however we do hope to stop at the village with the longest name on the way to the boat. A slightly later wake up time tomorrow. At the minute we will be back as planned around 7.00/7.15pm. If any change to that (and if app works ok from the bus) we will update you via the app.

Manchester Day 2

Day 2 began with a bit of a lie in. We didn't need to be ready for breakfast until 8.30am so everyone got to stay in bed a little later than normal. A lovely breakfast at the hotel was eaten well be everyone. We then had a very short walk across the road to the Museam of Science and Industry. The children particularly enjoyed one of the sections which was very hands on, with lots of different displays for them to touch and try. We then headed back to the hotel for our lunch and made our way towards Manchester City football stadium. Everyone really enjoyed the tour of the stadium, particular highlights being the home changing room and pitchside to get to sit in Pep's seat. The children were praised by the staff for how well they behaved and listened. We then went straight from the stadium to the Trafford Centre. By the time we made it through rush hour traffic there wasn't much time for shopping, though the girls did manage to squeeze in a successful trip to Primark. We then had great fun bowling and there was even a chance to ride some dodgem cars as well. We finally travelled back to the restaurant for our dinner which we didn't start eating until aboout 8.00pm. Again a long day so by the time we got back to the hotel around 9.30pm, children were given 30 minutes to get settled etc and lights out at 10.00pm. A very early start tomorrow for out journey to Alton Towers. Again no major issues and everyone is happy, doing well and enjoying the experience. We ran out of time for a quick phonecall tonight but hope to arrange one for tomorrow.

Manchester Day 1

It was an early start for 17 excited P6 and 7 children (and Mrs McClimonds and Mr Ritchie) as the bus left Mullavilly at 5.00am. About 90 minutes took us to Dublin Port. We got a very smooth crossing, which took just over 3 hours. The children had a bit of freedom to explore the boat and played some games to entertain themselves. We arrived in Hollyhead and another 90 minute drive took us to Chester Zoo. The children were all really excited and had a great time. We got to see lots of animals and the weather was very pleasant. A few tired legs towards the end and lighter pockets after a time in the gift shop at the end (a few more expensive purchases escaped the eyes of Mrs McClimonds and Mr Ritchie!!) All of our evening meals this week are in Frankie and Bennies rather than the hotel we found out today. Everyone did well with their food and really enjoyed the yummy dessert. By the time we got to the hotel it was nearly 8.00pm. Everyone went to their rooms and sorted their bags. We had a quick chat about tomorrow and all children were asked to turn their lights out for 9.30pm after such a long day. Still a few up as I type this at 10.00pm but most are nearly there. Everyone has been having a great time. No issues and behaviour has been very good. An excited and busy day with much less tavel tomorrow.
